Fir Tree House is a large 5-bedroom, detached property in Dunstable. It boasts a good size kitchen and dining room as well as a separate lounge with games room. The home has communal space for young people to have individual space in addition of their own personal bedroom. One of the bedrooms has been set up as an Independent suite with its own kitchen, lounge and ensuite bedroom. This area is available for the home to use for assessment of new young people and also for promoting Independence. The home has rear garden which has been a trampoline and a large patio. The home has restricted internet access which can be individually monitored and managed dependent on risk and online safety of the child. The home has areas designed to encourage home studying as well as desks in individual bedrooms. Adults within the home are proactive in supporting studying and encourage young people to foster positive attitudes towards their personal development and studies.
Fir Tree House works with a diverse range of young people who present many differing behaviours, inclusive of:
- Challenging behaviours, including emotional & behavioural difficulties
- Attachment issues
- Absconding
- Self-harm
- Low self-esteem / confidence
- Autism, Asperger and mild learning difficulties
- Young people who expose themselves to risk of harm
- A cycle of criminal offending
- Have poor life skills and are approaching independence
There are not sufficient facilities for Fir Tree House to provide care to young people who are severely physically disabled or have some specific special needs.
